This is a 1/72 USAF Bell X-1 Buster Airplane from Tamiya.
The first of the X-series of experimental research planes, the Bell X-1
was designed for the sole purpose of breaking the "sound barrier." As a result,
the was shaped like a .50cal bullet which was known to go supersonic
smoothly. After a series of flights which gradually raised the maximum speed
of the X-1, Captain Charles E "Chuck" Yeager became the first person to fly
faster than Mach 1 in October 1947.
FEATURES: Detailed 1:72 scale plastic kit for static display.
Markings included for X-1's numbers 1, 2, and 3.
55 in light grey and clear with fine recessed panel lines.
Cockpit detail: seat, pedals, instrument panel, side consoles,
control yoke, bulkheads, and optional open or closed cockpit door.
Kit includes 2 sets of halves - one in grey and one in
clear - allowing the kit to be built to display the rocket motor
and fuel tanks.
