This is a 1:600 HMS Hood Plastic Model Kit from Airfix.
Prototype Information: HMS Hood, Royal Navy Battlecruiser
Intended to be the first of in a class of several large fast battlecruisers,
construction on HMS Hood was started in 1915. However, by the time she was
launched the battlecruiser concept had been dealt a serious blow at the
Battle of Jutland and the Hood was the only ship of her type to be completed.
Nevertheless, HMS was the pride of the Royal Navy in the years between WWI
and WWII. The Hood participated in a number of significant naval actions
early in WWII and in May 1941 was sent with the Prince of Wales to intercept
the German warships Bismark and Prinz Eugen. In the ensuing combat, Hood was
hit causing one or more of her magazines to explode. She sank in 3 minutes
with only 3 survivors from her crew of over 1500.
