This is a 1/48 Chance-Vought F4U-1D Corsair Plastic Model Kit from Academy
Plastics. It's for experienced modelers.
The Corsair was primarily used as an offensive fighter and ground attack
aircraft. Initial versions had poor handling on aircraft carriers, so they
served with the Marines off land-based airstrips. The huge propeller needed to
absorb the power from the Pratt & Whitney R2800 engine, which led to the
inverted gull wing design for acceptable propellor clearance. The F4U-1D
featured a larger frameless canopy for improved visibility, but was otherwise
similar to the initial production F4U-1.
FEATURES: Detailed 1/48th scale plastic kit for static display.
133 parts in light grey and clear with fine recessed panel lines.
Cockpit detail: seat cockpit tub, control stick and instrument panel
decal.
Detailed Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engine with two styles of propeller
and open or closed cowl flaps.
External stores include underwing rockets with zero-length launch
rails, 2 styles of drop tank, and bombs.
Optional parts provided for raised or lowered flaps.
